COMPOUNDING PHARMACIST

compounding

Compounding is the art and science of providing medication that is not available commercially to meet the individual needs of a patient. A compound begins with a physician’s understanding that a patient needs a dosage form, combination of medications or strength that is not available in the market. Then the pharmacist and physician work together to envision a personalized medication that must be created by mixing together specific ingredients to make this compound. The pharmacist with his or her expertise is able to provide for the doctor the correct formula to deliver an effective treatment for the patient.

Whether it is a compound for a child who cannot swallow a tablet, or a grandmother who cannot use the orally available commercial product because it gets metabolized in her damaged liver . . . . or a kitten that would rather have a medication that tastes like tuna rather than bubble gum . . . . these are just a few reasons for the pharmacist to use their skill to compound.

Types of compounds:

  • For Men's Health
  • For Women's Health
  • Dental
  • Dermatology
  • ENT
  • Pain Management
  • Pediatric
  • Vet Medicines
